Our founder, a chemical engineer and surf lover, noticed (like anyone who's spent time in saltwater) that his hair looked incredible every time he got out of the ocean. Not because of any product. Just the ocean.
When he couldn't find anything on the market that genuinely replicated that feeling, he went to work figuring out why. After 80+ formulations, here's what he found.
THE SCIENCE
Real ocean water works because of minerals, not just salt. Ocean water is a balanced mix of minerals that your hair has always responded to naturally. That balance is what creates real beach texture. And it's almost impossible to replicate synthetically, which is why most sea salt sprays fall short.
Salty Hair starts with real ocean water sourced right here in Nova Scotia, filtered and concentrated so each bottle carries significantly more mineral content than anything made in a lab.
The plant gels aren't just filler. They're the key. Our plant gels work with the salt chemically which means we can get significantly more real ocean salt into every bottle than anyone else. More texture. More hold. And because the plant gels also lock in moisture, none of the dryness or crunch that comes with most salt sprays.
